How to use Compress PDF
- Select the PDF you want to shrink.
- Choose Recommended, Strong, Extreme or Lossless.
- Press Compress PDF and download the smaller file.
Large PDFs are hard to email and often rejected by job portals and government forms. Compression rewrites each page as an optimised image, which can cut scanned or image-heavy files dramatically.
Because the pages become images, text can no longer be selected at the three stronger levels. If you need searchable text, choose Lossless, which only tidies the file structure. If we cannot make a file smaller, we return your original untouched.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will my PDF be?
Scanned and photo-heavy PDFs often shrink by 50 to 90 percent. Text-only PDFs are already small and may not shrink much.
Why can't I select text after compressing?
Recommended, Strong and Extreme convert pages to images. Use Lossless to keep text selectable.
Is my document uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
What if the result is bigger than the original?
We keep and return your original file, and suggest a stronger level.
